Steps for Doing Resumes

  • Get job description.
  • Look at skills required for job.
     
  • Brainstorm all your skills:
    • Pertinent job skills from school, work, & hobbies (technical).
    • Transferable skills from school. Work, hobbies & your personality (non-technical).
       
  • Determine type of resume to use (chronological, tailored or functional).
     
  • Do resume.
    • Watch for white space, readability, and action verbs. Make sure there is consistency in job subheads (they are all the same font, size, etc), double check for errors and have others proof for errors also.
    • List skills from major, job pertinent skills to minor skills such as dependability, team worker, etc.
    • Change job objective to reflect correct job title for each job.
       
  • Do cover letter for each job you apply for.
     
  • Do thank you letter within 24 hours of interview.
